Last week we had an opportunity to get up to North Georgia for a little R&R! And, boy, was it wonderful! I don't think we realized how long it had been since we connected as just a family unit. We are usually visiting people or doing life. We were so blessed to be given a week at a friends cabin and the Lord was so faithful to renew us. Thank you Hach family. It was great to spend some quality time with Mavis-I think she loved having Mommy and Daddy at her beckon call. Here are a few of my favorite pics from the week. It's a girl!!!

In case you hadn't heard we are adding another little lady to our family! We are so excited about having another little girl and Mavis seems to really be getting excited too! She says that she is no longer "baby girl," which is what we call her most of the time- now she is to be called "big sister!" Yesterday the ladies at Starbucks offered her a free holiday bear to take home and she asked for a second one for her baby sister. So sweet. And what will baby sister's name be, you ask???

She will be named Camille!
No middle name yet, but we'll keep you posted. We've been fortunate to have 2 ultrasounds already and another one in four weeks. Not because there is something wrong, but just because they can't get a good look at everything. So, we have been able to check the sex twice and confirmed that she is, in fact, a girl:) Thanks for all your prayers and for checking in on the Sumner family. More news to come soon on a middle name!

Mavis-isms

Mavis is so fun at this age. She is really developing her sense of humor and loves making Mommy and Daddy laugh. She talks so much these days that we have full blown conversations all the time! It is funny, though, what she comes up with to talk about. Here are a few funny words and phrases that she is using all the time:

"look, mommy....leebes"-she says when she spots some really pretty fall leaves
"mommy, I watches Dora?"- that's what we hear right when she gets out of bed.
"Mommy, Daddy and Mavis snuggle on da couch"-this girl loves to snuggle with us! so precious.
"Nandy and Mavis, hold'n hand in the park"-this girl is in love with our close friend, Andy. At night she asks to pray for him before bed. Today he took our family pictures and she said she wanted to hold hands with him in the park. Can this really be her first crush??
"Wooooowww" She is so animated. Everything is wow, cool or pretty.
"bitty bitty"- her daddy uses the phrase itty bitty a lot, and she repeats it when talking about anything small in size

she is so excited about the new baby. I don't think she really gets the idea of being a sister at all, but babies she understands. She is so motherly. Our days revolve around taking care of her babies (baby lion, baby duck, baby sheep, etc.) feeding them, diapering them, rocking them...you name it. When she sees my tummy she says, " Awww, a baby in tummy. Aww, soft." she says while petting my tummy. Today she said, " baby in da tummy, go kiss."

Finally, precious moment of the day...we were headed upstairs for naptime. She always puts her head on my shoulder before going to bed. She then put her little hand to my cheek and said, "sweet sweet mommy." Are you kidding me? can being a mom be any better??

Halloween 2009

We had one cute Minnie Mouse around here on Halloween. We had a great weekend. Aunt Tee, Uncle Joe, and Zoey invited us to their trunk-or-treat on Friday night. We had a blast! It was a little rainy, but that didn't slow these girls down! I don't have too many pictures from the night because it was so cold and we were chasing a little one around among all the other trunk-or-treaters! Most of the pics are from Mave getting dressed for her big night. Mamy was here to help us get dressed. We went to a friends neighborhood that isn't quite as hilly and had a blast! Check out picture #1...Mavis wore here daddy's Mickey Mouse ears from when he was little. They have his name embroidered in the back:) What a great momma she is! We are thankful to have heirlooms like this!

Mave is growing so fast. Here she is enjoying some playtime with her purse and lipstick. Naturally, Mavis is a girly girl. Nothing her momma had anything to do with, I'm sure:) She loves putting on make-up, wearing her bows, and of course, taking care of her babies. She has so many and each gets tender loving care. She certainly has a soft heart when it comes to her little ones. If she drops one, she immediately picks it up and says, " Awww, baby, are you okay?" and plants a big smooch on it's boo boo. She diligently takes them to potty, cleans their hands and strolls them around for a "walk." She is such a joy to watch as she continues to develop. Her newest thing is singing constantly. Now she is replacing the words to all the songs she knows, like Twinkle Twinkle and Old McDonald with new words. I love to hear her creating and pretending. Look for more posts she continues to grow...

Saturday we celebrated sweet Mavis with a Dora the Explorer party! She had such a great time with all her family, her cousin Zoey and a few close friends! She got tons of wonderful things and was a little overwhelmed. We are still pulling out things slowly and will probably save some stuff for a little later!! Right now she loves her new baby that suck a passy and her new kitchen! She is cooking up a storm in between feedings:) already a momma!! We got back from Wilmington, NC last week for my best friend's bridal shower. Here is Mave's singing debut! Hope you enjoy. She has been asking me, " Mommy, sing?" all the time the past couple of days. When I was singing Twinkle, Twinkle yesterday she just joined right in. It takes her a little bit to get used to the camera, but she eventually sings along. Be patient-she sings about halfway through. A few other funnies...notice when i say "up above the world" she says "down." I guess she hasn't quite got the hang of things:) Our girl will be two next month! I can't believe it! Baby's First Wedding!

Sorry for the lack of updates, friends. We have been preparing for my sister's wedding. She was married here in Atlanta on July 3rd. The wedding was amazing. We are settling down after a long few weeks and I am finally able to post. Mave was the flower girl in the wedding and she did amazing! Here are a few pictures of her at the wedding events. Hope you enjoy! She is growing up so fast. She has definitely had a word explosion in the last 3 weeks. She is saying so much. It's fun to see her grasp the idea of humor and make jokes. Today she was pretending to be asleep when I tried to get her out of the car seat. Just when I got close enough to unbuckle her, she started giggling! She is so precious! She is coming up on the big 2nd birthday! Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the big day!

Little Mavis is growing up so fast and it is so fun to watch! She is looking more and more like her daddy, but has the drama of her mama:) She is hilarious! She is talking up a storm, sometimes a conversation to herself and sometimes full ones with us! It's amazing how much her vocabulary has taken off. She knows lots of colors, but "lellow" is her favorite. Purple and blue come in at a close second. She likes to count using her fingers, holding up a one, then two fingers. three is still hard, its pretty much is her whole hand. She gets a "A" for effort! She loves being outside, whether on the playground or in the pool. Right now we are playing with bubbles daily! She loves them. Her favorite toys are mommy's purse, mommy's make-up, her baby, and anything Dora...especially Dora books. We take regular trips to the Library and she picks out new books everytime. She loves to be read to, and occasionally reads to mommy. It's sounds like gibberish, but it's sooo cute and she is so proud. We can't wait to see how she grows more this summer. She is in her first wedding! I know she will do great! She'll be 2 soon, I can't believe. I am soaking up all the "baby" left in her while I can!

The Lake

We were able to escape to Gran and Grandaddy's lake house for Memorial Day weekend. We had so much fun relaxing and hanging out. The rain kept us indoors most of the time, but we were able to get a few boat rides in between showers. This is quickly becoming one of Mavis' favorite places. She isn't afraid of the water or boats at all. Everyday she wanted Grandaddy to take her out for a spin. He couldn't resist her coming up with arms raised saying, " DaDaDi...boat ride?" We would suit her up in her life vest and hit the lake. I think she would jump in and swim with the beavers in a heart beat! Enjoy!

Aunt Liv was able to snap a few shots of all of us together. It's rare to get us all still and smiling, but we were able to snap a few. Check out Honey...she is so big. Her and Mavis are best buds. They play and chase each other. Honey has no problem letting Mavis do whatever she wants, which is wonderful! We never have to worry about Honey being rough with her. She is definitely a sweet MamaPup. Mavis loves to call her right when she wakes up. She yells, "Noney, Noney" as we head downstairs for breakfast. Enjoy pics of our little fam! We went to the zoo this Monday for the first time! Mavis had a great time! She loved all the animals, especially the ones she could touch in the petting zoo. She has always loved animals and she definitely showed no fear at the zoo. She wanted to pet all of them, even the ones behind the fence! Her only frustration was that we would not move the glass so she could get to the Rhino:) Here are the pics-beware, there are a lot!!

So, tonight Mavis and I had a little girl fun. We went and had a hamburger at Five Guys (well, I did, she had her food-carrots, mac n cheese, yogurt-you get the idea:) Afterwards we walked through down town Suwanne and the topped it off with a little ice cream. I let her have a little sample cup full of chocolate. Well, here is what she looked like after scooping the ice cream up with her little fingers and sucking them dry! She was loving it, and sad to be "all done." She was one messy girl!

I am back. I know it has been forever! Early Spring is always crazy at our house and with our ministry. So, now that I have a little break I am catching up. Sorry for the delay on updates. Our little Miss Mave is growing like a weed.She is walking, running, climbing, dancing, singing...everything! ! She is eating with a fork and spoon, or trying to at least. She is better with a fork than a spoon, but she is getting there! She is a great eater and for that, I am thankful. She is still quite a little mother. She loves rocking her babies and patting them to sleep. She is madly in love with Elmo, and her new craze...Dora! Yes, we are all about Dora around here. Her Mamy got her a DVD player for the car and we are learning Spanish as we scoot around town. Thanks Mamy! She is already saying "backpack." For all you Dora lovers, you know Backpack is a very important part of the show! At her 18 mo. check up she was still in the 20 percentile with weight, coming in at 22lbs. The doctor says she is growing great. Keep checking for updates and some fun videos!

So, here's a funny story about Miss Mavis. Tonight Jake and I were finishing some Christmas shopping at the mall. It was time to wrap things up for the evening and we decided to head to the Krispy Kreme Donuts shop before going home because it is on the way...and because KK donuts are to die for! Wouldn't you know, the "hot donut now" sign was on (thank you Jesus!) so we decided to take Mavis in to see the donuts roll off the conveyor belt. A Christmas miracle in and of itself:) The minute we walk in Mavis gasps and let's out an emphatic "Ooh!" Then she immediately points to the donut case and does the sign for "please" as fast as her little hands will go. Now, keep in mind that she has never tasted, seen, nor been aware that donuts even exist, much less put a hot Krispy Kreme in her mouth. She knew without any prompting that Krispy Kreme's were delicious and she needed one, pronto! It was hilarious! She was licking her chops the minute we started looking in the donut case. As soon as those donuts were in our possession she had to have one. We let her try a little, she took one bite and then shoved the entire quarter of a donut in her mouth at once. We must be doing something right, our girl knows what's good in this world:) So I ask again...how did she know?!?

Here are some updated pics of our girl. We have had an eventful holiday season so far. These are a few pics taken from snack time just before Thanksgiving. She is growing up, but getting smaller! We went to the doctor this week and the child still only weighs 21 lbs.-which is what she weighed when she was 10mos. old! She is getting stronger, smarter, and taller...but smaller! I guess that's what happens when you are walking all over. I am so sad to see those baby rolls go, but so excited to see her grow up! She is so funny. Her new thing is to say "uh oh spaghetti-o." It kinda comes out "uh oh gat do" but it's adorable anyway. Enjoy.

Hello family and friends. Just wanted to give you all an update on little Miss Mavis. She turned 15 months old on Saturday and we just can't believe it! She is beautiful and we are just loving this stage of her life. She is walking, talking and keeping us on our toes! She will pretty much repeat anything you ask of her. Her new words this week are "breakfast" and "waffles." She is getting so big. Her new favorite thing is to play on the indoor playground at our mall. She loves it because there are so many other children exactly her age. She has learned how to climb up the ladder to the slide and go down on her tummy. Jake often has to referee because she hasn't quite gotten the hang of letting the other kids have their turn. We are working on it:) She is so cute in her fall clothes and jackets. I love to see her all bundled up with just her rosy cheeks peeking out above her clothes! So cute. And her pigtails get longer everyday! Check back for more news on our girl!

I just wanted to introduce you all to Mavis' favorite toy right now. She has decided that walking is for the birds...why doesn't everyone just scoot! Olly is Jake's toy from his 2nd Christmas and thanks to my wonderful, sentimental mother-in-law, he is alive and well. Even after 28 years! She has saved the most amazing things! Olly is great! Mavis loves to scoot all around the house, coasting up to us on the couch, checking out the dogs being walked down the street, even using him to help her get much needed things that Mommy thought were out of reach. Jamaica!!!

We just got back from a vacation with my family to the beautiful island of Jamaica!! The vaca was much needed and we had a great time! We went to a family resort there and Mavis loved every minute of it. Sesame Street characters were everywhere and she loved laughing with them. She was never once scared of them! Her favorite part of the trip was all the Jamaicans!!! She loved every single person from the resort staff that we were with, especially the boys! She had them wrapped around her finger! Unfortunately, I don't have any pics of her with the staff, but enjoy these pics of us at the resort. We owe a huge thanks to my mom for the wonderful vacation! Thanks so much! It was wonderful!

Hello everyone. Sorry for the delay in blogs. It was a busy summer, followed by an unexpected surgery, a very sick baby, and the start of another jam packed school year. Everyone is well and doing great. So, I finally am having a chance to get some pictures out to you all. She is going to be 11months old tomorrow and her first birthday will be here before we know it! She is doing so many fun things now. Lately she is doing all kinds of new "tricks!" These include...saying "touchdown!" with her hands raised high (in honor of Uncle Joe), giving hugs and kisses to all her baby dolls, clapping, playing patty-cake, giving high fives, and getting ready to walk. We don't have a first step yet, but we are looking for it any day now. No telling what life will be like then!! Enjoy these new photos of our girl!

My husband has discovered his new favorite sport! Wakesurfing. This way he can surf...which he loves...all year long, or at least all summer long when he's not at the beach! take a look! He was really good! You actually surf behind a boat on its' wake. You start with the rope in your hand just like skiing, and then toss it and are able to surf without anything but you and the board. pretty cool.

We have kicked off the summer and it's officially in full swing! We had family come to visit for my Golden 27th Birthday! Then we made our way down to Lake Blackshear for the Memorial Day holiday. Yes...yes...it's true! Mavis has an adorable bikini (thank you donna and scott!) and she was looking fabulous at the pool this weekend! Courtney graciously agreed to speak at our church on Wednesday and Thursday night for our student ministry! I have never seen our middle-schoolers so well behaved! She told them about some of the amazing adventures she has had over this past year and beautifully turned it into a pep talk getting them ready for their mission trips this summer. My sweet friend Courtney came to town last week. I hadn't seen her in a year and we were so glad to have her with us. She has been traveling around the world for a year and has just come home. Well, today was awesome! Mavis was looking awfully cute in her pink hat. I was telling Tee, I always forget that Mavis has tons of hats. We typically rock the bow! But, today it was chilly in Atlanta and I thought to myself, "a hat would be nice." So, here we are, cute as can be. She loves cell phones ( ...and remotes, and computer keyboards, anything that she's not supposed to have that is electronic) so here she is in a moment of sheer bliss, gnawing on my cell phone. Six months old...my how time flies!

Mavis turned six months old last week and I can't believe it! She is sitting up on her own, exploring her sippy cup(not really drinking out of it yet), and getting the biggest personality. She is quite a character. She smiles all the time and keeps things fun with all of her singing and talking! She has just recently started saying "ma ma" but of course has no idea what she's saying. It's fun to see all these changes in her. She is just a joy in our lives.
As for us, the early spring is really busy in our ministry. We have had retreats, events, and we are gearing up for our largest event of the year, the 30-hour Famine. Our ministry was among the top five churches in the country in our fund raising last year and we hope to continue to have that success. Our students get sponsered during the event to fast for 30-hours ending in a big dinner to celebrate their hard work. They focus on a particular issue involving hunger, this years is homelessness. We are excited for all that the Lord will do in the hearts of our students.

Mavis' First Christmas

Well, Mavis is four months old and just had her first Christmas! I was wonderful! She loved opening presents, or at least touching the bright red paper(her favorite color)! She got lots of toys and practically a new wardrobe!
This Christmas finds us all well and blessed beyond belief. Jake and the rest of the staff have a few weeks off of all our midweek activities, which is always nice. We were able to enjoy some quality family time with each other and extended family! Also, we had a great Christmas surprise. Our first neice was born on Dec. 12th! She is beautiful and Mavis is enjoying her! I know Mavis will show her the ropes soon! next Christmas should be much different with two toddlers running around!

Hello everyone. We have decided to create a blog for our family. I hope you enjoy the pics and updates. Let me start by giving you an update on our life now, Christmas 2007.

We have had an exciting year. We have completed our first year at Sugarloaf United methodist and love our job there. The ministry is vibrant and growing. Jake is the Student Worship Minister and is loving his position. He is able to serve in such a way that all his gifts are being used and the Lord is blessing his efforts. We can't wait to see what the year holds for him. He is set to produce and record the first Student Life album this January and is excited to partner with the students on this project.
I am serving alongside Jake at the church, volunteering when I can. I am also still a hair sylist in the area. I have recently changed salons and am working at a studio close to our house. It is owned by church members and is a wonderful place to be working.

The most exciting thing that has happened is the birth of our first baby-a little girl names Mavis Amelia! She is perfect in every way and is such a happy little thing! She most definitely has her daddy's smile! She is four months old this Christmas and we are so blessed to have her in our lives this year. I couldn't ask for a more beautiful baby!
